Donegal County Council is seeking to establish high quality continuous footway and cycleway routes In Letterkenny Town to promote active travel journeys from residential areas to key education, employment, commercial, recreational, retail and tourist destinations. It is proposed to achieve this by reallocating road space, implementing one-way systems and introducing shared pedestrian / cyclist facilities.
The Council invite residents of the area, members of the public and other interested parties to participate in the public information event for the Letterkenny Active Travel Projects which in one of the projects from the Pathfinder Programme.
The Pathfinder Programme forms a key part of the implementation of the National Sustainable Mobility Policy, which sets out the government’s plan to meet Ireland’s requirement to achieve a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in the transport sector. The Programme consists of 35 transport projects to be delivered by local authorities and agencies around the country within the next 3 years.
The project is currently at Phase 2 (Concept Development and Option Selection), which includes the identification of potential improvement options.
The purpose of this public information event is to inform the public of the project and to invite feedback on the improvement options that the Design Team propose.
